    • Simple answer is NO. Every medical procedure whether it’s open heart surgery or clipping an ingrown toenail has a billing code number so the doctor can be reimbursed. There is no such billing code for elective trepanation. If you arrived at the emergency room with a crushed skull and were still alive there would be a long list of procedures involved to save your life. Maybe one of them would be craniotomy (another term for making a skull opening). Understand though that elective trepanation has no billing code and would not be approved by the insurance companies or by the AMA.
